The public relations industry has been hurt by the economic downturn, making it a tough sector for job seekers to compete in. Recent survey results show that just 12% of recent new hires in the industry were found through job boards, while 27% were found through referrals. The web can be a great place to build networking contacts, and many professionals have abandoned job-listing sites in favor of social networks like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
