Most journalists seem to be choosing public relations as their new field of work when they are getting fired. Even prestigious papers like the Sunday Mail are dismissing their employees. The public relations body, the Public Relations Consultant Association was asked for some tips on choosing public relations and how to get acclimatized. Richard Ellis, Director of the Public Relations Consultant Association gave tips.
The most important and first tip is to carefully select and work out which public relations firm or organization you want to work for. This is very crucial as it is very important to enjoy the work while working in public relations. Also, the next tip says that you should prioritize your skill set because "content" in public relations is very important and since journalists know the newsworthiness and importance of topics, content is the key to good public relations. The next tip asks the journalist to control and influence the contacts. Maintaining contacts in the public relations world is very important. The next tip says that you should have a business-like mindset. The main objective is to get your client's message to the other side.
Last but not the least, pr officials should know how to manage things and be flexible. This should be a very helpful input for all journalists looking at this new phase!

PR-Jobs-Los-Angeles made its Twitter debut under "PR Jobs LA" and username @PRJobLA. This account is constantly tweeting new public relations job opportunities in the Los Angeles metro area as they become available.

The account also tweets dozens of daily job search tips, with topics including resumes, cover letters, interviewing, career advice, salary negotiation and professional networking with links to online resources. The public relations industry has been hurt by the economic downturn, making it a tough sector for job seekers to compete in. Recent survey results show that just 12% of recent new hires in the industry were found through job boards, while 27% were found through referrals. The web can be a great place to build networking contacts, and many professionals have abandoned job-listing sites in favor of social networks like Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.

The devastation of the Texas City refinery and the subsequent litigation that forced BP to pay at least $2 billion to compensate victims and cover federal fines overshadowed the story of the 2006 public relations campaign by the company.

One of the lawyers in a suit against the company over that campaign says that the 2006 and 2010 PR efforts provide an unprecedented window into the multimillion dollar efforts that BP uses to gloss over the human, environmental and economic damages that were caused by its two massive disasters. BP had a corporate-wide culture that lacked respect for law and safety, but TV ads portray the company as being focused on helping local communities. However, one of the employees featured in these ads has a long history as a public relations professional, not a community outreach worker.
